I never really thought of anything I could do to someone online, short of a nasty email, that would hurt their feelings so badly and might disrupt a friendship, that it might be forever broken....until now.
The notion of "unfriending", deleting a friend on myspace or facebook without their knowledge until they check (wikipedia has yet to define), is hardly new.
The first instances of its discussion happened a couple of years ago...and its recently made the Wall Street Journal. In most instances...its been touted as a massive offense. Really?
Here's my view. If you don't want to constantly see stuff about someone who you're not dating anymore...whats the big deal? You're not talking to them anymore...so why should you continue to get the play by play of their life. Seems a little strange to me.
Same goes with friends. If you've tried at a friendship...and its not taking off, no matter what you do, then why should you continue to see everywhere that person is partying without you when they said they were busy? it seems all a little self inflicting.
Its technology people. Social networks are a hazardous place full of the ups and downs of hey... real life social networking. People get miffed in everyday interactions without the tech interplay so to me...no difference. But a crime? A little excessive.
